Browser Focus Timer: Work planning and record keeping

Pomofocus guides you through how to divide tasks and set focus and break times, as well as the limitations of browser saves, notification sounds, and reports.

It's a browser-based, focused tool that starts without installation or login. Rather than simply timing yourself, pick out the tasks you want to complete during a session and then use them to compare expectations and reality afterward. The examples below are just how-tos to help you get started, not rules that will guarantee you will be more productive.

Example: Creating a Draft Table of Contents in 25 Minutes

Big goals like ‘complete the report’ are divided into several sessions. If you set the first session as a task with an end condition, such as ‘Check 3 references’ and the next session as ‘Create a table of contents,’ it will be easier to judge progress when the timer runs out.

  1. Add tasks for today with Add Task under Timer and estimate how many sessions you will need.
  2. Choose the task you want to focus on and press START in Pomodoro mode. If the default 25 minutes is not correct, change the time in Settings.
  3. If you need to pause for a moment, use PAUSE. Check the status of your current session before switching to another task.
  4. After completing the session, take a short break or long break. If the autostart setting is turned off, start directly in the following mode:
  5. View completed sessions in the report and adjust the estimated number of sessions for your next task.

Check concentration time, rest time, and sound separately.

You can change the length of Pomodoro, Short Break, and Long Break in Settings. Also check whether it auto-starts and whether there are long rest intervals. If you feel burdened by having the next session start right away every time you concentrate, turn off auto-start and make sure you have plenty of time to rest. Notification sounds are affected by your browser's audio playback policy or device volume, so press the Start button and test the sound with a short session.

Your history is saved in this browser

Your tasks, settings and report data are stored in your browser's local storage on this site. If you use a different browser or profile on the same device, your existing records may not be visible, and we do not provide automatic synchronization between accounts. You may lose your history if you close the incognito window or clear your site data. Please leave work results that need to be kept for a long time in a separate document. Saves may not be retained in environments where browser saves are blocked.

When interpreting timers and reports

Report's focus log is based on sessions completed using a timer. It's not really a metric that detects whether you've stayed focused or tracks what you've done in other apps. The expected end time is also a planned value based on the input workload and settings. Closing tabs or putting the device to sleep may limit browser launch and notification sounds, so don't use this in place of an alarm that must go off at the exact time.

Common questions

The task list is empty on another device.

Since it is stored locally in the browser, it does not retrieve history from other devices, browsers, or profiles. Try reopening the work in the environment in which you entered it.

I don't hear the shutdown sound.

Press START directly on the page and check your device volume, tab mute and timer sound settings. Depending on the browser, sound may be limited in the background or in sleep state.

Is longer attention span better?

This tool is not intended for long-term use. Adjust the time according to the difficulty of the task and your condition, and check the completed results and whether or not you took a break.

Does your screen look different?

The app changes over time. Include your app version and the steps you tried when contacting support. Do not send passwords, payment details or API keys.
